Lake Buena Vista, FL-- It's with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Bill Christy, Jean Christy's husband. Bill was the girls basketball district chair for North Carolina for over 10 years.
He passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 4:00 pm in the afternoon peacefully with his family around him.Â
Bill was very passionate about his "girls" and enjoyed many years dedicated to AAU Girls Basketball in Greensboro, in North Carolina and at many national Championships. Bill's dream of a Girl's Basketball competition where Districts could create "all-district" squads was fulfilled in the Junior Olympic Games National Championships in which North Carolina participated from 1998 - 2006. His Team North Carolina team won four AAU Junior Olympic National Championships in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2006. Bill was a lifetime member of the AAU and worked diligently to see that girls were given a equal opportunity to excel in sports and in life.
